To create the visual identity of Via del Giardino, a brand which markets top of the range items for animals, we began by searching for a character which was graceful and well designed, but which was not archaic or too ephemeral. We settled on a timeless classic character, the ‘Mrs Eaves’, by Emigre, and we then created a small deformation with a geometric base: the circle.

We wanted to keep this very idea of simplicity our guide in the definition of the icon. We wanted to design a key element, consisting of simple and recognizable forms, full of expression in its final result. We used circles, overlapping them in various ways, to create a shape which would resemble an animal.

The stylized icon is distinguished from the logotype by a horizontal stroke, which both draws attention to it and makes it easier to read the elements which it contains. The icon is then topped by another stroke, with dimensions in proportion to its width.
In this way we can use the elements (icon and logotype) separately from the complete form (logo).
The idea is to use the icon as an element to demonstrate the strength of communication, blowing up its purely typographic nature to create ‘toys’. These toys are all different but have the same head, due to the fact that its outline is made up by the icon, and the same body, which is made up of typographical elements belonging to the same family of the logo, ‘Mrs Eaves’ from Emigre. It would be interesting to develop and create charms, taking their form from the declination of the logo.
